A low key and low energy weekend. The rains are starting. It’s still pretty muggy but the temperature is lower.
I’m still in recovery mode from my travels and event organizing, but at the same time have a lot to do.
Plus some online discussions / Internet drama have contributed to sapping my energy a bit.
Regardless, weekend adventures were had!
Saturday
Yesterday was Car Free Day on Commercial Drive.
Espresso tonic from Prado.
Had steamed momos from this place.
On the way back stopped at Santa Barbara for lunch supplies and other groceries. I’m still sad that the market changed hands and I’m still bracing for it to get worse.
This is BABCI Polish Mayo. Made in Canada and really good!
Also bought fresh Portuguese buns and salami there for this epic lunch sandwich (also with tomatoes, cheddar, and garlic pickled green beans).
For dinner, we went out to Dosanko with friends.
We got a bunch of our favourites, here are some of the specials:
Seasonal vegetable tempura with koji salt for dipping was stellar.
Ling cod collar was deep fried and crunchy with super tender fish.
The whole reason for coming was this dessert. Japanese shaved ice treat with strawberries and ice cream and condensed milk.
We also saved room for two desserts and invented the dessert hot / cold plunge experience: pairing this with Japanese Whiskey Bread Pudding. No pic, also so good.
Sunday
Today I played a fair bit of Dwarf Fortress.
It’s relaxing! Except I have started like 3 fortresses and retired them all for one reason or another.
My last restart was trying a new world but then ending up somewhere tropical where everything is filled with water and/or sand!
Send me Dwarf Fortress tips!
For dinner, a Manicotti recipe from the recipe on the package.
I took a picture of the back of the box and Recipe Exchange now has a photo scan feature and it just worked. Nice!
Very basic recipe. Main modification was no nutmeg and addition of fresh lemon zest into the ricotta spinach filling. Jar of store bought pasta sauce.
Ha. I just looked at the Italpasta website. Air-fryer penne skewers??!!
That’s it for the weekend. Have a good week!
