Saturday
I wrote up our trip to Gourmet Warehouse yesterday already but may as well round it out with some images of the day.
Bought coffee at Union Market
Went to art show in this building.
The show is “Is this work — ing”
It was interesting. I wonder what is going to be in this space when it’s finished / open? Local real estate developer and construction places sponsoring it.
Here’s the write up (no website anywhere that I could find and they had a scanner app thing for the art pieces).
And then Gourmet Warehouse on the way home:
Sunday
We didn’t do much today although it still added up to multiple things.
The main plan was to go to West Vancouver in the afternoon where our friend Adrian has some art at the Kay Meek Centre, who had an open house.
Before that Rachael found out about a “tomato market” happening just a couple of blocks from us.
They are from Endswell Farm on Bowen Island and they were selling inside of Alterior.
We got New Girl, Valenciaga, and Dr Wyche’s Yellow, plus a basket of red and orange cherry tomatoes.
The off to the North Shore to have lunch before the show. Doing some quick Gmaps research we were planning to go to Wooden Fish, a Vietnamese place, but ended up going to Lao Cai.
Went over to West Van for an art show and went to Lao Cai for lunch: Chinese restaurant featuring Shaanxi-style snacks and hot pot. We had cumin lamb with hand pulled noodles, cucumber salad, and pan fried dumplings. It was soooo good! I want to go for dumpling happy hour!
This was honestly an incredible meal. Cucumber salad can be overgarlicked or have mushy cukes. This was clean and fresh and a great balance of garlic and vinegar.
The cumin lamb noodles were amazing. Possibly the best version of this I’ve ver had?
Dumplings were good - crunch on the bottom, pillowy top, moist & savoury filling.
Then up to Kay Meek Centre.
I really liked Adrian’s coloured frames.
